 Le cheval frison est prédisposé (Komine M et al 2014; Ploeg M et al 2014)
Caractères / symptômes

Dilation de l’œsophage et formation de diverticules; troubles de la motilité (pathogénèse neuromusculaire; aganglionose), obstruction de l’œsophage récidivante, régurgitation, dysphagie, toux, hypersalivation, pneumonie secondaire par aspiration. Anomalie de la formation de collagène (Ploeg M et al 2015). Ev. également rupture de l’aorte (Ploeg M et al 2015; Sonneveld J, 2014) et Paraplegia laryngis (Barton K et al, 2009).

La différence éventuelle entre les divers phénotypes n’est pas encore claire. Des travaux de recherche supplémentaires sont nécessaires.

Les dilatations de l’œsophage consécutives à une sténose ou une stricture sont des phénotypes différents.
Contraintes

Restrictions d’une fonction organique (système digestif) qui affectent fortement l’état général et la qualité de la vie; obstruction de l’œsophage, régurgitation, pneumonie secondaire; douleurs, euthanasie.

Diagnostic (examen général et endoscopie); adaptation de la stratégie d’élevage (les parents d’un poulain atteint ne devraient pas être affectés à l’élevage).

Diagnostic (examen général et du système digestif); les individus atteints ne doivent pas être affectés à l’élevage.
