Caractères / symptômes
La cause génétique a été démontrée (Sonneveld J, 2014). Fistule aorto-pulmonaire, rupture de l’aorte dès le jeune âge (forme aiguë et mort subite; subaiguë; chronique avec fistule aorto-pulmonaire); localisation inhabituelle dans la région proximale du ligament artériel (ligamentum -arteriosum Botalli); anomalie de la formation du collagène; ev. mégaoesophage (Sonneveld J, 2014). Hypertension arterielle (Vera L, 2018)
Dérégulation des métalloprotéinases matricielles (Maassen MAJ 2014). Les glycosaminoglycanes (GAG) et le collagène jouent peut-être un rôle (Havik SM 2014; Sijsling AM 2015).
Contraintes

Restrictions d’une fonction organique (système cardio-vasculaire) qui affectent fortement l’état général et la qualité de la vie; coliques récidivantes, léthargie, œdème périphériques, tachycardie, toux, saignements de nez répétés, réduction de la capacité de performance; mort subite (rupture de l’aorte).

Diagnostic (examen général et cardiologique); adaptation de la stratégie d’élevage (les animaux parents d’un poulain atteint ne devraient pas être affectés à l’élevage).
